At Couldwell Legal, accessibility is about more than where we meet.
It is about making it easier for our clients to access legal advice, understand what is happening and feel supported through what can sometimes be a difficult or overwhelming process.
We are a remote Western Australian law firm. We work with clients by phone and video conference across Perth and regional Western Australia, as well as interstate and overseas where their legal matter involves Western Australian law.
For many of our clients, that means being able to access legal advice from home, work or wherever is convenient, without taking unnecessary time out of their day to travel to an office.
Why we work remotely
Our clients lead busy lives, and legal problems rarely arrive at a convenient time.
You may be administering an estate while juggling work and family. You might live hundreds of kilometres from Perth. You may have been served with court documents and need advice quickly. Or you might simply prefer to meet with your lawyer from the privacy and convenience of your own home.
Our remote model allows us to work with clients wherever they are while still providing personal, considered legal support.
Appointments are conducted by phone or video conference, and much of the ongoing communication and document exchange throughout your matter can also take place electronically.
Wherever you are, our focus remains the same: clear advice, practical guidance and compassionate support.
Accessibility also means understanding what is happening
We know that dealing with lawyers can sometimes feel intimidating, particularly if you have never needed legal advice before.
You do not need to understand the legal terminology before you come to us.
We explain legal concepts and processes in plain English, talk you through your options and help you understand what happens next.
Our aim is not simply to give you legal advice. We want you to understand the advice you are receiving so that you can make informed decisions about your matter.
Supporting different communication and accessibility needs
Accessibility will not look the same for everyone.
If you have a disability, communication difficulty or another accessibility requirement that may affect the way you communicate with us or access legal information, please let our team know.
Where reasonably practicable, we will work with you to identify ways of communicating and providing information that make it easier for you to participate in your matter.
We can also work with interpreters and other communication support services where appropriate.
If you are unsure whether we can accommodate a particular requirement, please ask. We would much rather have the conversation and see what may be possible.
Does Couldwell Legal offer in-person appointments?
Our standard service is provided remotely by phone and video conference. We do not routinely offer office, home or other in-person appointments.
We recognise, however, that exceptional circumstances can arise.
For example, where urgent estate planning is required for someone in hospital and meeting remotely is not appropriate, we may be able to arrange an in-person hospital appointment.
Any in-person appointment is considered on a case-by-case basis, is subject to lawyer availability and may attract additional travel charges.
Can I work with Couldwell Legal if I live outside Perth?
Yes. Our remote model allows us to assist clients throughout regional Western Australia without routinely requiring them to travel to Perth.
You can meet with your lawyer by phone or video conference and communicate with our team remotely throughout your matter.
We also assist interstate and international clients who require advice or representation in relation to Western Australian legal matters.
