Gemma Couldwell – Principal
Gemma is our Principal Solicitor and the founder of Couldwell Legal.
Originally from England, she holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sheffield and moved to Western Australia in 2009. After settling in Perth, she completed her Juris Doctor at Murdoch University and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2013.
Gemma practices in Wills and estates, guardianship and administration, commercial litigation, debt recovery, and defamation. She is passionate about making legal processes as straightforward and stress-free as possible — especially during times of grief, conflict, or uncertainty. She is known for her calm, practical approach and her ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English.
She leads our remote-first firm, supporting clients across Perth, regional Western Australia, and beyond — including mobile appointments in homes, hospitals, and aged care facilities.
Outside of work, Gemma enjoys photography, weight lifting, and trips down south with her partner and their German Shepherd, Poppy.

Khalia Bastian – Associate
Khalia is our dedicated lawyer based in beautiful Albany, Western Australia. She provides professional legal services to clients across Western Australia, both remotely and in person. She works predominantly in the areas of estate planning and estate administration but has experience across many areas of legal practice, with a particular passion for tackling more complex estate administration matters. Whether it’s dealing with informal wills, an intestate estate (when someone passes away without leaving a will), or wills and estates with unique challenges, Khalia thrives on pushing estate administration matters through to their completion.
An Albany local deeply rooted in her community, Khalia is always ready to lend a hand wherever possible. Khalia’s previous role at the Albany Community Legal Centre helped her build a strong connection with the local community and further develop her skills in delivering accessible and compassionate legal support. Her community-focused approach complements her professional knowledge and capabilities, ensuring clients feel supported and understood throughout their legal matters.
In her downtime, Khalia enjoys tending to her many animals, a reflection of her caring and nurturing nature. Her combination of legal knowledge, dedication to her community, and approachable demeanour align perfectly with the firm’s core values of accessibility, compassion, and clarity, making her an outstanding member of our team.

Stephanie Moon – Legal Secretary
Stephanie is an integral part of our team, bringing warmth, expertise, and a wealth of experience to her role as legal secretary. With years of experience in wills and estates and commercial litigation, Stephanie has a keen eye for detail and a genuine passion for helping people.
Stephanie is also based in beautiful Albany, and works remotely to support clients all over Western Australia. She’s an essential part of the team, lending a hand to our Albany-based lawyer, Khalia, and to our principal, Gemma, who is based in Perth and travels to Albany regularly to meet with clients. Whether managing tasks or keeping communication clear and efficient, Stephanie is always on top of things.
When she’s not hard at work, Stephanie is an animal lover through and through. She’s passionate about standing up against elder abuse and enjoys staying active with Pilates. Her warm and approachable nature makes her a key part of our team, and she’s dedicated to ensuring every client feels supported and cared for.
